Data Comparison of a Non-hybrid and Hybrid LMP1 racecar
Objective: Using Motec i2 data analysis software compare data taken from AVL VSM simulation software of a non-hybrid and hybrid LMP1 racecar.
Using the data from VSM different analysis were conducted to investigate the difference in performance between the hybrid and non-hybrid:
- Fuel consumption comparison showed that the hybrid used 1.38 kg of fuel, while the non-hybrid used 1.85 kg.
- Tire Saturation vs. Tire Temperature showed the non-hybrid averaging higher saturation levels and temperatures on the rears then the hybrid. While the hybrid only slightly running higher temperatures on the fronts with similar saturation levels as the non-hybrid.
- The aero balance for both care is very similar for slow and high speeds. Shifting to the rear at slower speeds to reduce corner entry oversteer and to the middle or slightly forward at high speed corners.
- Comparing the driving style of the two cars, the hybrid spends more time at full throttle, brakes less and later, and has much more consistent brake performance in terms of deceleration.
